Joy Varghese
Joy Varghese had journalism in his nerves, as son of noted journalist M.M.Varghese. M.M.Varghese had a long innings in Mathrubhumi Daily before he retired, but Joy Varghese died at the age of 54, when he was Chief of Mathrubhumi Alappuzha Bureau.
Joy Varghese, like his father had an eye on the development of Alappuzha in his thoughts, talks and writings. He knew every one, every nook and corner of the district.
Joy Varghese was vice-president of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) when he died 18 May 2011. He had also served as state president of Mathrubhumi Journalists Union.
Joy Varghese joined Mathrubhumi in 1984 and had woked at the Kozhikode, Alapuzha, Kochi and Kottayam units. He has bagged the Mother award for best journalist, Alapuzha Rotary award, Nadashri Puraskaram and Nehru award.
