Boobli George Verghese (born 21 June 1927), usually known as B.G. Verghese, is a senior journalist, who was editorof the leading papers Hindustan Times(1969–75) and Indian Express (1982–86). Since 1986, he has been associated with the social sciences think-tank Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi.Hailing from an elite family background, Verghese attended the Doon school and then studied Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi with a master's from Trinity College, Cambridge.Verghese started his journalistic career in The Times of India.
