ASAP

Additional Skill Acquisition Programme or ASAP is an ambitious initiative of the Government of Kerala to address unemployment in the state. The programme helps selected students from schools and colleges to acquire professional training in fields such as Communications and IT among others. Kerala Media Academy offers a specialised course to college students to help them pursue a career in field of media and entertainment.

Certificate Course in Junior Correspondent

This course is specifically designed according to contemporary standards of print media. Selected candidates will be given professional training in developing writing and communication skills. Upon completion students will have acquired understanding about theoretical and practical aspects of working for a print media like newspapers or magazines. The skill sets include reporting, editing, giving headlines and captions, design and layout, news photography and photo editing. Students will also learn about ethics, media laws and legal issues.

Eligibility

·       Students enrolled for first year Bachelor’s degree in any stream

·       Candidates are selected through an Aptitude Test and Personal Interview

·       Read and write in Malayalam and English

Internship

150 hours of internship in newspapers and magazines.

Assessment & Certification

The Academy will regularly assess the students during the period of the course. Certificates will be awarded by the Government of Kerala and Kerala Media Academy based on the performance in the regular assessments and a final examination.

Jobs

Successful trainees can find jobs as a Junior Correspondent/Reporter in newspapers and magazines.
